five seconds flat

i’ve always loved Lizzy McAlpine, especially her premiere 2020 album “Give Me a Minute”. but, I recently took the time to listen to her newer work “five seconds flat”, and I can say that I am over the moon impressed. her voice is quite honestly like butter, and the mixing and production is impeccable. the entire album is comprehensively distinguishable from “Give Me a Minute”, and she delves into even more of this musical theater-esque lyric niche, and does it flawlessly. I feel like this album, however, isn’t much of a casual listen. but, what does a “casual listen” even mean??? it’s quite deep, and a tad depressing even, but that’s not a bad thing at all…… a bit angsty even? A very minute complaint I have with the album is that I wish there was a little more variety in the songs. but, I think that an overarching similar sound is inevitable when a singer has a such a distinct voice as hers. maybe even a collab (other than Jacob Colliers production on ‘Erase Me’) would fit pretty well within this scope.

Overall, 8/10, and my honorable mentions are: Erase Me, Called You Again, and of course, the show stopper, Ceilings
